About FCT Shield Tournament
FCT Shield is an annual hardball T10 cricket tournament, launched in 2025, that brings together the finest student cricketers from the Faculty of Computing and Technology, University of Kelaniya. Representing three degree programmes, Information Technology, Computer Science, and Engineering Technology, students compete with passion and pride for the prestigious Challenge Shield.
Since its inaugural season in 2025, FCT Shield has rapidly gained attention across the university, becoming one of the most vibrant and highly anticipated events on campus. It is more than just a tournament. It is a celebration of talent, energy, and unity within the faculty.
FCT Shield provides a platform for students to showcase their sporting spirit while developing teamwork, discipline, and a shared vision. Beyond the players on the field, the tournament creates opportunities for many others to contribute in meaningful ways. From organizing and planning to media, design, and coordination, students actively engage in bringing the event to life.
More than cricket, FCT Shield represents leadership, creativity, and collaboration. It is a space where students not only compete but also grow, connect, and demonstrate their skills beyond academics.
History of FCT Shield
The journey of FCT Shield began in September 2024, initiated by Mr. A.L.P. Arachchige, Mr. Y.S. Danthasinghe, and Mr. C.D. Senevirathna with a vision to create a competitive and engaging cricket platform for students of the Faculty of Computing and Technology.
With a strong concept in place, the idea was formally presented to the faculty administration. Following several discussions and meetings, official approval to proceed with the tournament was granted in December 2024.
The successful initiation of FCT Shield was made possible with the support and guidance of the faculty administration, including Dr. Dammika Weerasinghe, Dr. Chamli Pushpakumara, and Mr. Neil Cooray. In addition, the Senior Treasurer of the organizing committee, Mr. Pathum Mihiranga, played a key role in establishing the tournament on a strong foundation.
Following approval, the founding team formed an organizing committee to plan and execute the event. Within just three months of preparation, the committee successfully delivered the inaugural tournament, marking the beginning of what would become one of the most vibrant events in the faculty.
Since then, the organizing committee has continued to evolve each year, with new members taking on the responsibility of organizing the tournament. This ongoing transition ensures fresh ideas, continuous improvement, and the long-term sustainability of FCT Shield as an annual tradition.
