The Meaning Behind the FCT Shield Logo

The FCT Shield is more than just a trophy — it is a symbol of achievement, tradition, and unity within the Faculty of Computing and Technology. At the heart of this historic tournament lies the Shield Logo, carefully designed to reflect both cultural heritage and the spirit of the competition.
The wooden shield, passed from champion to champion each year, carries this emblem as a reminder of the values the tournament represents. Central to the logo are four “Palapethi”, traditional elements representing Sri Lankan culture. These four symbols also signify the four degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Computing and Technology. While the inaugural seasons feature three teams, a fourth team — Team BT, representing the newly added Bachelor of Bio-System Technology — will join in future editions, ensuring all programmes are represented.
Flanking the shield are two sections of three lions each. One section represents the faculty administration, acknowledging their guidance and support in nurturing both academics and extracurricular activities. The other section honors the organizing committee and staff members, recognizing their efforts in making the tournament possible, even though they do not participate on the field.
Encircling the shield is a unifying line that runs along the edges of the logo. This continuous border represents unity, collaboration, and the combined spirit of students, staff, and faculty — a reminder that FCT Shield is built not only on competition but also on teamwork and shared passion.
Every time the shield is lifted, it carries this legacy: a connection to culture, recognition of hard work, and a celebration of unity. The logo is a visual story of the FCT Shield’s identity, making each season meaningful, memorable, and full of pride.
